I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions - Augusten Burroughs
We all make mistakes I think. What makes some mistakes
bigger or weightier than others are the implications and consequences that
follow. Take for example a technician who is in charge of switching off all the
computers and locking up, maybe one day he slips up, leaves the computers running
over night, over weekend. The consequence? Runs up a greater bill.
Compare it with a pharmacist, who’s responsible for
carefully weighing out the medicine before tabulating and formulating and
giving it to the patient, a single decimal error, an incorrectly calibrated
scale, and the wrong dosage is given. Consequence? Patient dies from overdose
even though he followed the instructions to the letter.
Both of these are mistakes, both human errors that could
happen to anyone. But the result of such error, the price one has to pay for
making a mistake, it differs.
Nobody is perfect they say; we all make mistakes. But
sometimes, just sometimes, the price we have to pay for our mistake is just too
much.
